Tommy Emmanuel, CGP with Jerry Douglas (4/30/20)

Tommy Emmanuel, CGP with Jerry Douglas

A Music Hall/Music Without Borders Co-presentation, supported by WFUV
An incredible evening with two virtuosos! Tommy Emmanuel has achieved enough musical milestones to satisfy several lifetimes. Or at least they would if he was the kind of artist who was ever satisfied. At the age of six, he was touring regional Australia with his family band. By 30, he was a rock n’ roll lead guitarist burning up stadiums in Europe. At 44, he became one of five people ever named a Certified Guitar Player by his idol, music icon Chet Atkins. Today, he plays hundreds of sold-out shows every year from Nashville to Sydney to London. All the while, Tommy has hungered for what’s next. When you’re widely acknowledged as the international master of the solo acoustic guitar, what’s next is Accomplice One, an album of collaborations with some of the finest singers, songwriters and, yes, guitarists alive today – a list including Jason Isbell, Mark Knopfler, Rodney Crowell, Jerry Douglas, Amanda Shires, Ricky Skaggs, J.D. Simo, David Grisman, Bryan Sutton, Suzy Bogguss and many more. Dobro master and 14-time GRAMMY winner Jerry Douglas is to the resonator guitar what Jimi Hendrix was to the electric guitar, elevating, transforming, and reinventing the instrument in countless ways. Additionally, Douglas is a freewheeling, forward-thinking recording and touring artist whose output incorporates elements of country, bluegrass, rock, jazz, blues, and Celtic into his distinctive musical vision.

Martin Sexton & KT Tunstall (5/2/20)

Martin Sexton & KT Tunstall

A Music Hall/Music Without Borders Co-presentation, supported by WFUV
Celebrated singer and songwriter & American troubadour Martin Sexton is joined by multi platinum, Grammy nominated artist KT Tunstall for an incredible evening at the Music Hall. Each will perform their own sets. In 2020 American singer-songwriter Martin Sexton extends touring in support of his ninth studio release Mixtape of the Open Road. The Wall Street Journal and CMT premiered tracks from the album that since garnered much critical acclaim. "Outstanding taste in songwriting as well as a soul-marinated voice.” - Rollingstone. Sexton got his start singing in the streets and subways of Boston in the early 90's. Still fiercely independent and headlining venues from The Fillmore to Carnegie Hall, he has influenced a generation of contemporary artists. His songs have appeared in television series such as Scrubs, Parenthood, Masters of Sex and in numerous films, though it's his incendiary live show, honest lyrics, and vocal prowess that keep fans coming back for more. Since scoring a worldwide smash with her debut album ‘Eye To The Telescope’ in 2004, which went on to sell over 5 million copies, KT Tunstall has remained at the forefront of UK singer- songwriter talent. Over the next decade, three further critically acclaimed albums followed; ‘Drastic Fantastic’, ‘Tiger Suit’ and ‘Invisible Empire//Crescent Moon’ in 2007, 2010 and 2013 respectively, keeping the platinum sales rolling and cementing the Scottish singer-songwriter’s reputation as a major recording talent, as well as a mesmerising live artist.

An Acoustic Evening with Lyle Lovett and John Hiatt (5/4/20)

Lyle Lovett & John Hiatt

A Music Hall/Music Without Borders Co-presentation
The celebrated singer/songwriters return to the Music Hall! The concert will feature both artists performing side by side, alternating songs from their respective careers. Utilizing their dynamic chemistry to swap stories and songs, fans can expect a rare “unplugged” evening of entertainment.  Lyle Lovett, singer, songwriter, actor and four-time Grammy Award-winner, has broadened the definition of American music in a career that spans 14 albums over three decades. The Underwater Bubble Show (5/8/20)

B Underwater Bubble Show

A Music Hall/Music Without Borders Co-presentation
Inspired by childhood standards like Alice in Wonderland, The Little Mermaid and Peter Pan, B-The Underwater Bubble Show is a modern fairy tale with one major twist. “Each classic tale represents a journey of a kid who grows up and learns something,” explains co-creator and director Enrico Pezzoli. ”We wanted a story about an adult character who discovers that he can still go back and enjoy life. We don’t always need to grow up. Sometimes we need to step backwards for a bit and restart.” The show follows Mr. B, a creature of modern habits who “always feels pressed by a thousand things to do in a world that seems to be moving too fast." The office worker discovers a little aquarium that appears like magic inside his briefcase and gradually becomes enchanted by the wondrous underwater world of Bubblelandia, which is full of seahorses, dragon fish, starfish, mermaids and other creatures.

Judy Collins & Arlo Guthrie (6/6/20)

Judy Collins & Arlo Guthrie

A Music Hall/Music Without Borders Co-presentation
An incredible evening featuring two of Folk Music’s most celebrated icons. For over 50 years, Judy Collins has thrilled audiences with her unique blend of interpretive folk songs and contemporary from the 60s to the present. Arlo Guthrie’s timeless stories and unforgettable classic songs carry on the Guthrie family legacy with his singular voice as both a singer-songwriter and social commentator. Judy Collins has inspired audiences with sublime vocals, boldly vulnerable songwriting, personal life triumphs, and a firm commitment to social activism. In the 1960s, she evoked both the idealism and steely determination of a generation united against social and environmental injustices. Five decades later, her luminescent presence shines brightly as new generations bask in the glow of her iconic 55-album body of work, and heed inspiration from her spiritual discipline to thrive in the music industry for half a century. Judy began her impressive music career at 13 as a piano prodigy dazzling audiences performing Mozart's “Concerto for Two Pianos,” but the hard luck tales and rugged sensitivity of folk revival music by artists such as Woody Guthrie and Pete Seeger seduced her away from a life as a concert pianist. Initially making a name for himself in the ‘60s with the iconic “Alice’s Restaurant” and providing perhaps the most often repeated phrase from Woodstock (“The New York State Thruway is closed, man.”), Arlo Guthrie helped define the singer-songwriter genre burgeoning in the ‘70s. With over 30 albums in his discography, an Arlo Guthrie show delivers an astounding time capsule from the works of his dad, Woody Guthrie, to the present day. After decades of touring, he is dialing it back a bit, but the road has become a way of life for the famed folk singer: sharing songs and stories, getting to the heart of what really matters, and of course, being a comedic agitator.
