Random Farms Kids' Theater presents Matilda (7/26 - 8/3/19)

Matilda (CAST D)

Presented by Random Farms Kids' Theater
Based on Roald Dahl’s classic children’s book of the same name, Matilda follows Matilda Wormwood, a bright little girl who immerses herself in books. Matilda is discarded and belittled by her dimwitted parents—her father insists on calling her a boy and harps on her “stupidity” for preferring reading to watching the telly—and her hostile headmistress, the outrageous and wicked Miss Trunchbull. Reclusive, but with an ever-growing imagination and sharp mind, and with a caring protector in her teacher Miss Honey, Matilda dreams of a better life, daring to take a stand against unjust forces and to grasp her destiny in her own, tiny hands.

An Amazin’ Evening of Myth & Baseball with the World Champion ’69 New York Mets (9/21/19)

An Amazin’ Evening of Myth & Baseball with the World Champion ’69 New York Mets

A Music Hall/Music Without Borders Co-presentation
Take a trip down memory lane with Mets legends Art Shamsky, Ed Kranepool & Ron Swoboda, as they commemorate the 50th Anniversary of their unlikely, astonishing 1969 miracle campaign, when the New York Mets defeated the Baltimore Orioles to claim the World Series Championship in just their eighth season as a Major League Baseball franchise. The Mets legends will share stories from their incredible season and take questions from the audience. The 1969 New York Mets season is regarded by baseball historians & enthusiasts as ‘The Greatest Season Ever’. The previously, remarkably terrible franchise defied every prognostication (and several laws of physics) to surmount impossible odds in a historic year when Neil Armstrong also walked on the moon, & half a million music fans gathered for Woodstock, and while the War in Vietnam offered stark realities on the evening news.

A Night With Janis Joplin - Tony Award Nominated Musical (9/22/19)

A Night With Janis Joplin

A Music Hall/Music Without Borders Co-presentation
The Tony Nominated Broadway Musical celebrates Janis Joplin and her biggest musical influences – trailblazers like Aretha Franklin, Etta James, Odetta, Nina Simone and Bessie Smith, all of whom inspired Joplin to become one of Rock ‘n’ Roll’s greatest legends. Like a comet that burns far too brightly to last, Joplin exploded onto the music scene in 1967 and, almost overnight, became the Queen of Rock ‘n’ Roll. Her unmistakable voice, filled with raw emotion and tinged with Southern Comfort, made Joplin a must-see headliner from Monterey to Woodstock. Audiences will enjoy Joplin’s favorites, including “Piece of My Heart,” “Cry Baby,” “Me and Bobby McGee,” and many others. The New York Times raved that A NIGHT WITH JANIS JOPLIN “rocks the house” and Variety called it “electrifying.” New York 1 cheered, “This will rock your socks off!”

National Geographic LIVE On the Trail of the Big Cats: Steve Winter

Part of The Engaging Conversations Series, Sponsored by Mercy College and Dan Bucci of Coldwell Banker
Steve Winter specializes in wildlife photography, particularly big cat photography, and has been a National Geographic photographer since 1991. He has been interviewed on CBS Nightly News, NPR, BBC, and CNN and other media outlets. His film with Bertie Gregory, Mission Critical: Leopards at the Door, continues to run on Nat Geo WILD. Delbert McClinton (9/28/19)

Delbert McClinton

A Music Hall/Music Without Borders Co-presentation
Delbert McClinton has been a leading Americana artist since before the genre was established. He has won two Grammy awards in the blues category for Best Contemporary Blues Album; and one in the rock category (Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group), with Bonnie Raitt for "Good Man, Good Woman”. The multi-Grammy Award winning artist is at the top of his game with his 19th studio album, Prick Of The Litter (Hot Shot Records/Thirty Tigers). The new offering captures the balance of soulful energy and restraint that the legendary performer has been delivering in his live performances for decades all over the world. On Prick of the Litter, Delbert incorporates a variety of styles, and as always, just enough to keep him comfortably outside the traditional marketing categories. Lyle Lovett has said, “If we could all sing like we wanted to, we’d all sing like Delbert.” Prick Of The Litter blends Delbert’s signature rhythm and blues sound with a newer jazz-influence inspired by Johnny Mercer, Nat King Cole and other legendary crooners. He includes some upbeat traditional blues (“Don’t Do It”) with a romantic take on Tony Bennett’s San Francisco (“San Miguel”) while “Skip Chaser” paints a vivid picture of the perils of the profession. A highlight is the album’s closer, the gentle and hopeful “Rosy.” McClinton's road band, Self-Made Men provide a hard-driving rhythm section, powerful guitars and innovative piano, accented by punched-up horns. Delbert’s definitive vocals and distinct harmonica licks bring it all together.
